PS 10 Avacal or Die!
Lady Viridis Aletha Solari
In a far southern hold,
Where our foemen stand bold
Our baronies, cantons and shires
Are in the mud and the blood and the mire
Divided by battle, we look up with a prayer
To find our standard in the air
Can you see the griffin flying high?
Silver's truth, honour's gold
Like Avacal's blood, ever bold
Our fire burns in the red griffin's eyes
Avacal, hear our cry!
Avacal, or die!
We'd been so long at war,
We scarce could fight anymore
Nearly half had died in all
Now we fell back before the southern wall
'Til one man among us raised his sword up high
He roused us with this battlecry;
"Rise up and fight,
Yeomen, squires and knights
You must rally, and defend
You must stand by your prince until the end
The price of our honour he asks it of us all
For Avacal to stand some must fall!"
Can you see the griffin flying high?
Silver's truth, honour's gold
Like Avacal's blood, ever bold
Our fire burns in the red griffin's eyes
Avacal, hear our cry!
Avacal, or die!
With pike, bow and sword,
We broke through the horde
Through clashing steel and fallen foes
He cried out beneath their brutal blows
He fell beneath the banner he'd spurred us to defend
And these were his words in the end;
"I want to lie under Avacal skies
Take my heart, take my sword
I beg this last boon of you, my lord!
Bury me in the land I've loved so dear
And I will die without fear."
His sword stands in a hollow, in a field
Rose white, roses gold
Rose red for a heart that's ever bold
A brilliant banner guards them like a shield
This griffin's child who'll never yield.
Can you see the griffin flying high?
Silver's truth, honour's gold
Like Avacal's blood, ever bold
Our fire burns in the red griffin's eyes
Avacal, hear our cry!
Avacal, or die!
