Saltarello
mid-15th century
Notes by Mistress Fabienne
l'Accusee:
This anonymous 15thC. dance piece is a particular
favorite. It derives its name from the high leaps in the dance. It was usually
proceeded by the passamezzo. The pavane and galliarde eventually
surpassed this pair od dances in popularity in the early 1500's. The form of the
original is a bit nebulous, so I based it on the most widely supposed structure
of the piece.
